Although the Eugene/Springfield area retains the look and feel of a small town,
its outstanding cultural attractions match the offerings of much larger cities.
The Hult Center
for the Performing Arts and the University combine to offer theater, symphony,
dance, and opera. The internationally recognized Oregon Bach Festival attracts
musicians from around the world. The Grateful Dead, B.B. King, Joe Williams,
Joan Baez, Keith Jarrett, the Cowboy Junkies, and Emmylou Harris are just a
few of the rock, blues, jazz, and country greats who have performed recently.
Ashland's Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Jacksonville's Peter Britt Festival
are a short three-hour drive from Eugene. Portland, a city of more than one
million with lively arts and cultural offerings to suit any taste, is only a
two-hour drive away.
