Planning Your Academic Experience:
A step by step guide toward integrating coursework, experiential learning, and off campus opportunities.
Freshman Year:
EXPLORE all of your options.
Actively review websites for campus departments, services, and programs.
Know what opportunities are available to you. (The earlier you understand what your options are, the better positioned you will be to take advantage of them.)
Learn the University requirements and pre-business requirements.
Create a Four year plan – with detailed planning for the first two years.
Meet with an academic advisor in 145 Lillis to review your plan
Use tutoring services for BA 101 if necessary.
Pay special attention to grades and make adjustments to study habits as needed.
Introduce yourself to faculty during their office hours.
Join at least one campus club or organization.
Reapply for financial aid and scholarships (both UO and private).
Check blackboard and e-mail announcements weekly.
Items for consideration:
Group Requirements—select courses that will “double dip” with global context for business decisions requirements. For example: An arts and letters course that is about German culture can also meet the global context requirement if your country of focus is Germany.
Decide whether or not you want to learn a foreign language. (Typically, business students who study foreign language take at least two years of college-level language).
Consider overseas study opportunities
Decide whether or not you want to earn the Certificate of Global Management and if you do, make every effort to overlap those requirements with general education requirements.
Sophomore Year:
Take on leadership roles.
Attend LCB sponsored speakers and events
Participate in UO/LCB student organizations
Focus on completion of pre-business core. Grades are particularly important at this point. Make use of free tutoring services in 155 Lillis as needed.
Seek help as early as possible if you experience difficulties.
Introduce yourself to faculty members during their office hours
Complete the math series and the pre-business core courses.
Consider Honors Business Program
Apply for major status. Applications are due the second Friday of the term in which you are completing your pre-business requirements.
Finalize study abroad plans
Meet with an academic advisor in 145 Lillis one term prior to applying for the major to review your status and plans.
Meet with a career advisor
Apply for LCB Scholarships.
Check blackboard and e-mail announcements weekly.
Junior Year:
Set target graduation date
Commit to career preparation—meet with career services.
Explore potential career options and determine whether or not you will seek a concentration.
Meet with departmental faculty to (learn more about concentrations)
Develop relationships with faculty members.
Create a term by term plan for final two years.
Pick up information on concentration course offerings- 145 Lillis.
Perfect your presentation skills
Secure summer internship- begin identifying internship possibilities fall term.

Senior Year:
Finalize term by term plan. Verify course sequences will be offered as anticipated.
Meet with an LCB advisor to verify you’re on track to graduate as planned.
Review Duckweb records to make sure any desired minors/double majors are declared before applying for your degree.
Apply for undergraduate degree through Duckweb at least one term before completion of requirements
Review your Online Degree Audit to determine your progress toward fulfilling UO requirements.
Apply for a Graduation Analysis with LCB Peer Advisors. They will evaluate your progress toward major requirements and mail you a summary of what you have left to complete. (This summary does not include general education requirements.)
Verify all outstanding transfer work has been received by UO registrar’s office.
Check E-mail and black board announcements daily.
Check career center section on blackboard weekly for latest job information.
Update your resume and begin the job search- fall term.
Make plans to attend commencement. View commencement information on LCB website and forward to family/guests. Travel arrangements and restaurant reservations should be made early in the academic year.
Complete the student satisfaction survey and career services survey
