What is the New Venture Championship®?
The New Venture Championship® is a national/international business plan competition created and sponsored by the University of Oregon's Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship.

What is the history of the New Venture Championship®?
The Lundquist Center held its first New Venture Championship® in the 1991-92 academic year, when only a handful of educational institutions were embracing entrepreneurship as a legitimate area of study. In fact, prior to 1991 there were few university-based entrepreneurship centers, and even fewer national business plan competitions. As a pioneer in this area of entrepreneurship education, the Lundquist Center continues its tradition of leadership and innovation with a bigger and better New Venture Championship® each year.

What happens at a business plan competition?
Teams are divided into five separate tracks, and present their plans to a panel of business experts, which include successful entrepreneurs, senior business executives, and world-class venture capitalists. Acting as competition judges, these experts select first-round winners from each track. These five teams then compete head-to-head for cash and additional prizes, with the first place team walking away with $25,000 and an auto berth to MOOT CORP.

Meanwhile, teams not selected for the final round compete in the Lightning Round. Facing a new group of judges with very different performance expectations, teams encounter another unique learning opportunity featuring a no-frills, bare bones, "quick" pitch format. Teams will need to demonstrate creativity, sound business fundamentals and superior communication skills inside of a time pressure environment. $13,750 in cash prizes are awarded.

What's the competition like?
Bring your best stuff. Student teams from over 60 universities and colleges from across the nation and around the world are expected to submit entries. The top twenty plans, representing the best and brightest college entrepreneurs in the world, will ultimately be chosen to participate in the New Venture Championship®.

Where is the event held?
This year's event will be held in Portland, Oregon on April 10-12, 2008 at the historic Multnomah Hotel - the Embassy Suites, Downtown, 319 SW Pine - just minutes from the waterfront and downtown Portland business district.
