Together, three LCB business students are creating an online social network for golfers, which aims to bring a community feel to a game typically thought of as an individual sport. The site, GolfingMyWay.com, is currently under construction and hopes to bring golfers around the nation together by taking on the role as the "All Inclusive Website" for golfers.
The idea was originally the brainchild of John Robinson in the winter of 2006; but with the addition of Scott Rasmussen and Jake Horton last spring, the three-man team has
developed a truly unique golfing website. With some initial funding and the current search
for future investors, these entrepreneurs are scheduled to meet their mark of launching their site, which will change the way you play golf, by Summer 2007.
“Our site hopes to strike at the hearts of golfers of all skill levels,” said John Robinson. “From high school golfers to members of country clubs, from avid golfers to people who play once or twice a year, young or old, our site has something for everyone interested in
the game of golf.”
With the help of the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship's (LCE) Dick Sloan and Randy Swangard, the GolfingMyWay.com team is developing a business plan to present to future investors and business partners. They are participating in the LCE’s Entrepreneur Internship program, which walks UO students through the process of writing a successful business plan and starting a lucrative venture.
“This truly has been a learning experience,” says Jake Horton. “The knowledge that we have gained through working with the LCE staff has helped us tremendously and has been a vital part in our success so far.”
“We feel that hands on experience is the best way to learn how to be successful in the real world,” followed Scott Rasmussen. “And when we started to brainstorm the idea for the site, we knew that it was our best opportunity to get this experience and make a future venture for ourselves.”

Scott Rasmussen, is a junior from Bainbridge Island, WA with a focus in Finance. Since high school I have been playing around with the idea of starting a business. I started the summer of my sophomore year of high school by creating a small landscaping business with my brother and a friend. With a loyal customer base I saw the demand to continue my venture through my junior year of high school. This experience added to my entrepreneurial interest and made me understand the thrill of working for myself. During my sophomore year at the UO, I was working to start a web site with the aim of creating an all inclusive concert calendar for local music lovers. While John was studying abroad he, told me he was creating GolfingMyWay.com. We continued to bounce questions and ideas off each other until he asked me if I wanted to help him out. After hearing the idea I quickly jumped on board and we have been developing the business since. I graduate in Spring 2008 and hope to be working for myself from that point on.
John Robinson, is an LCB junior from Stanford, California. I have found that it is the perfect time to start a business because I have so many resources at my fingertips and a university that is well equipped to help me succeed. Being in college, I have found that I have what most businessmen can’t find enough of -- time. As an entrepreneur student, I am very excited to start this business because it is providing me with the framework and knowledge that I need to become successful with future entrepreneurial activities. I am a business major with a focus in Entrepreneurship and I plan on graduating the spring term of 2008.
Jake Horton, is a junior from Tualatin, OR with a focus in Marketing. The thought of creating my own business and working for myself has always been a dream of mine. Growing up, I was always networking myself with people who had created successful ventures for themselves and did what I could to learn their keys to success. When John, Scott and I began discussing the possibilities of GolfingMyWay.com, I was excited to work on a project that I feel has such huge potential. I know that the experience that I am gaining from this venture will help me in any aspect of the work world that I go into. I am excited to be able to apply the knowledge that I have acquired through my classes at the UO in this real world, hands on endeavor and gain all the experience I can while I am still a student where there are so many resources for me to learn from.
