First Class of Master of Accounting Students Graduate from the Charles H. Lundquist College of BusinessIn September of 2000, the Charles H. Lundquist College of Business opened the doors of its newest program, the Master of Accounting (MAcc)--the only MAcc degree in the Oregon University System. The first select group of students graduated in June 2001 after completing classes in accounting theory, cost management, assurance services, taxation, valuation, systems, international accounting, and business etiquette. The ten graduates, prepared for the accounting profession, went off to start careers at prestigious accounting firms, including Ernst & Young, Deloitte & Touche, Grant Thornton, Moss Adams, and Isler & Co. The MAcc program was in response to an Oregon Senate Bill requiring additional hours of coursework in order to sit for the CPA exam. The MAcc program consists of classes that satisfy the additional year of study required beyond a B.A. for individuals who are planning to take the CPA examination (and to join the American Institute of CPAs). Completion of this fifth year results in a master of accounting degree. The incoming MAcc class for fall 2002 has twenty-five students, more than double the first year's enrollment and evidence that the program is growing quickly. Five of these students have graduate teaching fellow (GTF) positions and are leading introductory managerial accounting lab sessions. The competitive GTF positions provide a complete tuition waiver. Other MAcc students received thousands of dollars in scholarship monies. Other Stories:
