Searching for Jobs Online
In the beginning there was the internet. The internet grew and expanded, and information overload ensued. There are now more choices for the job seeker on the web than ever before: Monster, Career Builder, Yahoo! Hot Jobs, JobDango, America’s Job Bank, not to mention online classifieds, blogs, and professional organizations. So how do you find the best jobs and save valuable search time in the process?
Two websites have helped to cut through the noise. The first is Job Board Reviews, an online directory which lists hundreds of job databases (organized by occupation and industry) and gives them ratings. The second is Indeed, which heralds the slogan, “One search. All jobs.” It’s a meta-search engine that compiles electronic postings from just about every other website. It’s simple interface makes it easy to use and it’s exhaustive listings gives you the confidence that you’re just about everything that’s out there.
Keep in mind that the internet isn’t the end-all, be-all of job search strategies. Make sure you’re finding those other ways to make connections with employers–informational interviews, networking events, professional associations, etc. Contact LCB Career Services if you’d like help with your search: 541-346-3301.

You’re invited to watch teams of LCB students compete in a business case competition sponsored by Target. The case asks students to examine Target’s position in the Digital Media Industry and make recommendations to Target as to how they could better use digital media to drive product sales. The intention of this competition was to give the students a culminating experience to their first year that would pull together their learning across the curriculum in a real case for a real company.
