Marketing Department Ranked Among Best in Research Impact
The Department of Marketing at the University of Oregon's Charles H. Lundquist College of Business is ranked first in research impact per faculty member among top public universities. In addition, the Lundquist college's marketing department is ranked sixth in the nation overall and is the top-ranked West Coast marketing department, ahead of the departments at USC, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and the University of Washington. In a separate independent study reported in 2008 the marketing department ranked eighth in productivity among U.S. universities.

The marketing faculty are active scholars who are also recognized for teaching excellence. Members of the department have won teaching excellence awards at the undergraduate, MBA, and Executive MBA level. They have also won numerous national awards for research excellence. In addition, many are actively involved with the business community as consultants and board members.

The Department of Marketing offers courses in marketing, sports marketing, and business environment. It provides undergraduates with concentration areas in marketing and sports marketing, and supports the entrepreneurship concentration. At the MBA level, the department offers a concentration in marketing, a sports marketing context area, and supports the entrepreneurship context area. Ph.D. students in marketing generally focus on consumer behavior, marketing communications, sports marketing, international marketing, or marketing strategy.

Oregon faculty have consulted to firms in the Pacific Northwest and nationwide, such as Marriott, Polaroid, American Express, Tandem Computers, Donaldson Company, U.S.West, Pape Group, Moet-Chandon, PW Pipe,1st Interstate Bank, Apple Computers, General Motors, Beatrice Hunt-Wesson, The Interpublic Advertising Group, Subaru, and AcuPoll. Oregon marketing faculty have also done expert witness work on litigation matters involving Bristol-Myers Squibb, Visa International, Nike, Adidas, Pacific Bell, the Oakland Raiders, Nautilus, PCH, Toyota, Vidal Sassoon, the America's Cup, Perrier, the tobacco industry, the pharmaceutical industry and the American Pediatrics Association.

  • 35 publications in the 30 most influential (of 245) research journals for business scholars, including 25 articles in the top 15 journals.
  • Over 100 publications in the top journals in marketing, social psychology, communication, sports marketing, and supply chains.

Research influence.

  • Oregon’s marketing department ranked first in average citations per faculty among marketing departments at the 23 leading public universities.
  • And, we ranked 10th in average citations among the marketing departments at the top 46 private and public business schools

Academic leadership.

  • Four faculty elected as research fellows of international academic organizations for significant lifetime contributions to their fields
