Why Experiential?
Experiential education is a core value and competency of the Oregon MBA. More than just learning by doing, or applying theoretical lessons to practical situations, experiential education is about creating a continuous loop in which real-world feedback drives constant improvement. What worked? What didn't? How might we do better next time?
Much of the experiential learning in the Oregon MBA program is mediated by the four centers affiliated with each of our four tracks. However, there are also experiential learning opportunities that span all four center and tracks. The following are the major experiential learning opportunities coordinated at the broader MBA level.
Strategic Planning Project
The keystone of experiential learning is the Strategic Planning Project (SPP), which typically begins in the fall or winter term of your second year and concludes the following term. You and two or three of your classmates will be matched with one of our industry partners to tackle a significant real-life business issue. More.
Exchange Programs
We strongly encourage our MBA study and travel abroad given today's global economy. And we have established relationships with other universities around the globe to facilitate exchange and study abroad opportunities. More.
Engaging Asia
A hallmark of the Oregon MBA, our Engaging Asia study tour gives second year students that chance to immerse themselves in the culture and business climate of China and other Asian countries. More.
Trips and Visits
Oregon MBA alumni and business connections spread far and wide. Through a plethora of trips to major industry hubs and visits with leading companies, MBA students gain insider knowledge from leading professionals and a network of contacts. More.
Center-Based Activities
Looking for other experiential learning opportunities? Develop a plan for your own business as part of the New Venture Planning class. Become a Technology Entrepreneurship Fellow in the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship and explore the commercial potential of technology developed at the University of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Take sustainability electives that partner teams of students with area companies pursuing green business strategies. Collaborate with a sports marketing professor in an annual evaluation of the fan friendliness of NBA teams. Help stage charity and athletic events. Do a short-term consulting project under the auspices of the Finance Securities Analysis Center. These are just a few of the center-based experiential opportunities that await Oregon MBA students.
