Program Overview
The Oregon MBA combines a solid foundation of core business courses with numerous electives and a myriad of experiential learning opportunities focused on our four signature centers in Entrepreneurship, Securities Analysis, Sports Business, and Sustainable Business Practices. These centers describe what Oregon is all about: edgy, progressive, technologically sophisticated, outdoorsy, socially and environmentally responsible
The Oregon MBA is
...comprehensive and center-focused Eight core courses, a capstone class, and an emphasis on effective presentations, business writing, interviewing skills, team dynamics, and case analysis form the broad foundation for the electives and learning activities of our four centers in Entrepreneurship, Securities Analysis, Sports Business, and Sustainable Business Practices.
…experiential and entrepreneurial
Whether you advise Northwest companies on their business plans, formulate your own, or utilize the centers’ industry contacts, the emphasis will be the same: Applying classroom learning to the real world. Thinking outside conventional lines. Seeing what others don’t.
…small and personal
In our intimate classes, you won’t be an anonymous face in the back row. You’ll have plenty of time to get to know your classmates and professors. And you won’t find more helpful folks than the program staff.
…collegial and diverse In our many group projects and consulting opportunities, you’ll find yourselves cooperating closely with classmates from at least half the states in the Union and several countries across the globe. Not bad for a small program.
…quintessentially Oregon Oregon is not just a place, it’s a state of mind. We are surrounded by natural beauty and enjoy a laid back lifestyle. We are serious about business and constantly strive to achieve a healthy balance between work and play. You can be your own best self in Oregon.
Globally Speaking
Many of our MBA students hail from abroad, making the Oregon MBA far more diverse than you might expect from a small program. Many of our faculty members have worked overseas or were born there, so you’ll be taught by men and women whose contacts (and context) are worldwide.
Built into our program are the annual China study tour and opportunities for summer study abroad. In fact, the university ranks among the top public institutions in the percentage of students studying overseas—in more than 60 countries. For anyone serious about international business (and who isn’t?), study abroad is an essential complement to our own multinational course offerings.
Prominent government institutions and private sector companies in Asia sponsor their best employees for the Oregon MBA. In addition, Muskie Fellowships for students from Russia and the Soviet successor states, and special exchange programs with Germany, France, and Denmark attract an international mix of students that enriches classroom exchanges and leads to life-long transcontinental friendships.
International students at the University of Oregon represent nearly 90 countries and give the campus a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The International Affairs office offers a host of services specifically for them. And the small size of the Oregon MBA program creates a supportive environment for international students both inside and outside the classroom.
Then there’s Eugene, known for its welcoming attitude towards folks from abroad. It’s a safe, manageable, and pleasant place to live and work, with wonderful schools for students with young families.
