The Department of Finance offers courses in finance and business economics. The undergraduate program offers a concentration in finance.The MBA program offers a track in financial analysis, which is supported by the Finance and Securities Analysis Center. The department also offers a PhD program in finance that focuses on training students to conduct scholarly research and to teach at the college level. Faculty members serve on the editorial boards of leading academic journals and have won several teaching and research awards. Finance faculty members’ research is published primarily in the leading journals in economics and finance. The finance department has a strong reputation for its research on investment management and corporate finance.ActivitiesThe finance department hosts a biennial academic conference bringing distinguished national and international scholars to campus to discuss particular themes in finance. On June 3, 2011, the department hosted a conference honoring Wayne Mikkelson, who retired after nearly thirty years on the finance faculty. Conference program.During the academic year, the finance department invites faculty members from other universities to present and discuss their current research. During the summer, the department hosts one or two research scholars from other institutions who visit for a week or two. The finance department sponsors the University of Oregon Investment Group, a student-run organization that manages an investment portfolio of $750,000.
