Center for Sustainable Business Practices Experiential Learning

Guest Speakers

Experiential learning is a central tenet of the University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business, and a key reason why students and companies alike come to Oregon. When students are given the opportunity to apply classroom concepts to a real business situation, they gain a greater understanding of business dynamics. Integrated in this experiential education philosophy is a strong connection to industry the brings industry leaders to campus through a speaker series, as part of coursework, and via our executive-in-residence program.

Speaker Series

The Center for Sustainable Business Practice speaker series is an opportunity for students and faculty to hear practitioners from around the world discuss their approach, obstacles, and insights related to ensuring business practices address the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profits. The series brings a range of industry leaders  as guest lecturers, featuring an open question-and-answer format and open to the larger campus community. Guests are typically movers and shaker in the areas of sustainable business, life cycle analysis, supply chain management, and are indicatives of the broad network of industry support that the center enjoys. Past guest speakers have included representative from:

  • Oregon Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies
  • Dave's Killer Bread
  • Urban Land Institute
  • Nike
  • Natural Logic

Executives in Residence

Every term, the Center for Sustainable Business Practices invites leaders from companies to visit with our faculty and students for a day. These Executives in Residence engage with our students and share their wisdom, experience and perspective. They work with students in a variety of settings--speaking to classes, holding public presentations, or even participating in lunch and dinner roundtables. where students get to talk informally with them about their life, business, and experiences balancing stewardship of planet, people and profits.

What is so interesting about these visits is that the executives in residence themselves say they find tremendous value participating--and ask to come back.
Our past executives in residence have included

  • Tim Fallon, president of Kettle Foods North America
  • Marc Stuart cofounder of EcoSecurities
  • Darcy Winslow, founder of Designs for a Sustainable World.
