The curriculum in Accounting is designed for students who want to prepare for a career in public, corporate, or governmental accounting or who want to embark on a management career with a strong accounting emphasis.
The Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon is fully accredited by the Association for Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The UO Accounting Department is one of only 120 programs separately accredited by the AACSB.
Accounting students are highly recruited by a variety of organizations, taking positions in public accounting firms, industry, and government. Accountants become involved in issues ranging from the design of information systems to the formulation of acquisition strategies. Given the growing internationalization of business, career paths can even lead to exciting opportunities abroad. Phil Knight, founder of Nike, earned his degree in business administration, with a major in accounting, at the University of Oregon, as did Charles H. Lundquist, the namesake of the UO college of business.
Students who choose to major in accounting embark upon a career in an exciting and prestigious profession. Through Beta Alpha Psi, the national honors fraternity for financial information professionals, they interact with accounting professionals, get to know other accounting students, and begin to make the transition from student to professional. The University of Oregon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi is the second oldest in the nation.
